Event development / Desfășurarea evenimentului:
We started organizing the trip since the announcement of the demo; even though we are 10 hours away from Timișoara and the demo ends the day before school starts, the team members expressed their desire to participate. We disassembled the robot we used last season and organized and sorted the parts by categories, then put them in the car we were going to go with.
Even though this was our first experience of this kind and the first physical competition we participated in, the experience was downright awesome and extremely exciting.
Once we arrived at the University, we quickly became friends with some of the participating teams. There we were presented with the theme of the competition and the field, a rather large space where the robot had to take some sponge balls and throw them into a movable gate (1m away, 1.5m high)
The ideas did not take long to appear, the first two being: a propulsion system like those who throw baseballs or another hitting system like baseball pitchers. After we decided that the throwing system was the most suitable, we started to build the robot.
Even though we didn’t have any problems building the chassis, the intake and the launch mechanism gave us some difficulties that we tried our best to solve. Just when we thought the problems were over, we noticed that our motors weren’t fast enough to launch the balls far enough. Our saviors were the organizers of the competition, who lent us their engines (of 6000 revolutions). This solution was still not enough, but after we put the 2 wheels that were in charge of launching at the same height through all kinds of improvisations, we managed to launch the balls far enough.
In the little time we had left, we tried to learn how to drive the robot since we didn’t come with any drivers from home.
On the day of the competition, we packed up the robot and headed to the mall where it would all take place. There were a lot of people there, and the feeling we got when they chose to come to our stand was delightful. Although we had no promotional materials, the children did not hesitate to come to control the robot or ask us questions about our technical work.
Results:
– during the competition itself, we didn’t have the best performance, little experience and improvisation of the robot saying its word, but we managed to make a good figure reaching a tie with the teams Quantum Robotics and Abso Tech (later the winner of the competition)
– our main goal was never to win, but to see what the atmosphere is like at this type of events, to meet other teams and make friends with the people behind the teams, because above all, we are all teenagers, looking for new friends and want to collaborate with as many people as possible
– however, the activity did not end here, spending the evening at the Flight Festival, together with those from Sova and Teaborgs, who did not hesitate to advise us on how we can develop or improve our activity in the future.
Am început să organizăm călătoria încă de la anunțarea demo-ului; deși ne aflăm la 10 ore distanță de Timișoara și demo-ul se termină cu o zi înainte de începerea școlii, membrii echipei și-au exprimat dorința de a participa. Am dezasamblat robotul pe care l am folosit sezonul trecut și am organizat și sortat piesele pe categorii, punându-le apoi în mașina cu care urma să ne deplasăm.
Chiar dacă aceasta a fost prima noastră experiență de acest gen și prima competiție fizică la care am participat, experiența a fost de-a dreptul minunată și extrem de interesantă.
Odată ajunși la Universitate, ne-am împrietenit rapid cu câteva dintre echipele participante. Acolo ni s-au prezentat tema competiției și terenul, un spațiu destul de mare în care robotul trebuia să apuce bile de burete și să le arunce într-o poartă mobilă (1 metru distanță, la 1,5 metru înălțime).
Ideile nu au întârziat să apară, primele două fiind: un sistem de propulsie asemenea celor care aruncă mingi de baseball sau altul de lovire asemenea aruncătorilor de baseball. După ce ne-am decis că sistemul de aruncare este cel mai potrivit, am început să construim robotul.Chiar dacă la construirea șasiului nu am avut probleme, intake-ul și mecanismul de lansare ne-au pus câteva dificultăți pe care am încercat din răsputeri să le rezolvăm. Când credeam că problemele s-au terminat, am observat că motoarele noastre nu erau destul de rapide pentru a putea lansa bilele suficient de departe. Salvatorii noștri au fost organizatorii competiției, care ne-au împrumutat motoarele lor (de 6000 de rotații). Această soluție totuși nu a fost de ajuns, dar după ce am pus cele 2 roți care se ocupau de lansare la aceeași înălțime prin tot felul de improvizații, am reușit să lansăm bilele suficient de departe.
În puținul timp care ne-a mai rămas, am încercat să învățăm să conducem robotul, deoarece nu venisem cu niciun driver de acasă.
În ziua competiției, am împachetat robotul și ne-am îndreptat spre mall-ul în care avea să se desfășoare evenimentul. Acolo era o mulțime de oameni, iar sentimentul pe care l-am simțit atunci când alegeau să vină la standul nostru a fost încântător. Deși nu aveam materiale promoționale, copiii nu au ezitat să vină să controleze robotul sau să ne pună întrebări despre activitatea noastră pe plan tehnic.
Rezultate:
– în timpul competiției propriu-zise, nu am avut cea mai bună performanță, puțina experiență și improvizarea robotului spunându-și cuvântul, dar am reușit să facem o figură frumoasă ajungând la egalitate cu echipele Quantum Robotics și Abso Tech (ulterior câștigătoarea competiției);
– principalul scop al nostru nu a fost niciodată victoria, ci să vedem cum este atmosfera la acest tip de evenimente, să cunoaștem alte echipe și să ne împrietenim cu oamenii din spatele echipelor, căci, mai presus de orice, suntem cu toții adolescenți care caută noi prietenii și își doresc să colaboreze cu cât mai multe persoane;
– totuși, activitatea nu s-a încheiat aici, seara petrecând-o la Flight Festival, alături de cei de la Sova și Teaborgs, care nu au ezitat să ne sfătuiască despre cum ne putem dezvolta sau îmbunătăți activitatea pe viitor.
