With the help of teachers from High School no. 11 we managed to present our project to younger children and future high school students.
Here we also reached primary school children. Although they could not understand the programming or engineering part at the level we used them to, we were pleasantly surprised when we noticed their enthusiasm and curiosity with which they asked questions.
After the classes for the children in the primary classes, we took a short break, then the children from the 5th-8th classes would enter. Here, things were different. The presentation was much more thorough, I gave them much more details about the First Tech Challenge competition, about mechanisms, programming, in short, about our whole project. Also here I presented each department separately, proving to the children that, regardless of their level of knowledge, they can find a place in the team if they have the will and want such an experience.
We also emphasized teamwork, showing them that FTC places great emphasis on this subject and more than that, the team is above all else. So I issued a challenge to each class I visited. The challenge was to create a message for the team or for our robot, Paula, which would then be stuck on the side of the robot during the regional.
We hope that after this day we managed to convince the future high school students to join us in this wonderful experience, that we managed to share the values of STEM and that we ignited a spark for the little ones in relation to this subject.
Moreover, the team members present at this activity had the opportunity to meet again with the former teachers from the gymnasium, the 4 being students there from the 5th to the 8th grade.
We can say that this opportunity helped us to be able to speak in front of an audience, helped us to promote the idea of robotics in several classes and also reminded us of where we started and where we ended up within the First Tech Challenge competition.
Cu ajutorul profesorilor din Școala Gimnaziala nr. 11 am reușit să le prezentăm copiilor mai mici și viitorilor liceeni proiectul nostru.
Aici am ajuns și la copii din clasele primare. Deși nu puteau înțelege partea de programare sau de inginerie la nivelul la care le-am folosit noi, am fost plăcut surprinși când le-am observat entuziasmul si curiozitatea cu care puneau întrebări.
După orele copiilor din clasele primare am făcut o mică pauza urmând să intre copiii din clasele 5-8. Aici, lucrurile au stat altfel. Prezentarea a fost mult mai amănunțită, le-am oferit mult mai multe detalii despre competiția First Tech Challenge, despre mecanisme, programare, pe scurt, despre tot proiectul nostru. Tot aici am prezentat si fiecare departament în parte, demonstrându-le copiilor că, indiferent de nivelul cunoștințelor lor, își pot găsi un loc în echipa dacă au voință și își doresc o astfel de experiență.
De asemenea, am pus accentul si pe munca în echipă, arătându-le ca FTC pune mare accent pe acest subiect si mai mult decât atât, echipa este mai presus de orice. Astfel, am lansat o provocare fiecărei clase pe care am vizitat-o. Provocarea a constat în realizarea unui mesaj pentru echipă sau pentru robotul nostru, Paula, mesaj ce ar fi urmat să fie lipit pe o parte a robotului în timpul regionalei.
Sperăm că în urma acestei zile am reușit să îi convingem pe viitorii liceeni să ni se alăture la această experiență minunată, că am reușit sa împărtășim valorile STEM și că le-am aprins o scânteie și celor mici în legătură cu acest subiect.
Mai mult decât atât, membrii echipei prezenți la această activitate au avut ocazia de a se revedea cu foștii profesori din gimnaziu, cei 4 fiind elevi acolo din clasa a 5-a până în clasa a 8-a.
Putem spune că această ocazie ne-a ajutat și pe noi să putem vorbi în fața unui public, ne-a ajutat să promovăm ideea de robotică în mai multe clase și totodată ne-a adus aminte de unde am pornit și unde am ajuns în cadrul competiției First Tech Challenge.
